SALSA BAND official website - myspace page
The Echo Park Project, a brainchild of percussionist and New York native Carlo López, is releasing their second CD “El Viernes Social”, in which the band focuses on delivering original work that evocates the taste of New York salsa. With a total of 12 songs, the majority are original tracks written by local composers, mainly Orlando López “Mazacote”. A special bonus is the cover of “Falsa Moneda”, a flamenco song from Spain that has been originally arranged for the first time into salsa, as well as a tribute song to Hector Lavoe. In line with their first CD, the second one also features some of the best compositions of Tite Curet Alonzo, Jose Mangual Jr., and Ramón Rodríguez, among others “My intention is to continue the tradition of the 70’s era of music. The East Coast salsa playing has a different feeling than the West Coast, and I wanted to offer a different alternative to dancers and salsa lovers. It is also the music that we love to play.” said Carlo López, director of The Echo Park Project. Special guest in the recording is Oscar Hernandez, director of the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, who recorded piano in one of the more stunningly arranged track of the CD, the salsa version of famed flamenco song “Falsa Moneda”.
