Old school Latin jazz
at its best, played by musicians that know jazz and Latin music both.
Mantilla's band includes Enrique Fernandez on baritone saxophone and
flute, Edy Martinez on the piano, Mike Freeman on vibes, Cucho
Martinez on bass and Bill Elder and Steve Berrios on drums and
percussion. The tunes range from Benny Goodman's "Flying Home" to
"Maria Cervantes," by Noro Morales, with a stop at Terry Gibbs' "For
Keeps." It's all well produced — the pianist Cedar Walton did the
production — and the music is more than radio friendly.
