Review by Latin Lady Dj Margarita for WWW.VINILEMANIA.NET

Nowadays, you don't have to travel to a far-a-way land to experience it's essence and culture. Today you can immerse yourself in that culture by means of literature, music, food, films and so much more. Ochún's second endeavor En El Año De Ochún promises such an experience. We are in Cuba with Ochún!

Here's an orquesta who touts the name of it's diety, embracing it as an everyday part of their culture and history. Ochún is the Afro-Cuban goddess of love and She all the good things in life that we all hope to receive and are blessed with.

On this journey and with these good tidings of love, you're invited to sit back and experience the simply beauty of a guaguanco, a romantic bolero, una guarita linda, un son montuno, or one of my favorites, a charanga. All, are ever present and each one a unique and special treat as you visit or re-visit a treasured moment in time.

On this album you find a wonderful collaboration of incredibly talented musicians. To name a few; Miguel Garcia who graces us with his powerful and soulful vocals, Pablo Moya on Tres (Pablo worked on arrangements as well), Percussionist, Gabriel “ Chinchilita” Machado, Pianist, Paul Armstrong (who was also vocalist on this project), as well as a long list of additional musicos and featured guests.

So what do you envision when you hear "Cuba?" The hand-rolled "Havanas", the clicking of the dominoes against the tables, the chatter among friends, la botella de ron, the men and their hats, the dieties, the soul-filled rhythmic dancing, la musica? All of these and much more combined, are all part of the portrait. They are the individual strokes painted on the everyday canvas of the streets of an island known as Cuba.

Ochún is the artist that brings those strokes to life and shares the blessings through their music. This is a most enjoyable experience and one which deserves to be shared with friends. Highly Recommended.

Tracks include: 1 En la esquina de Galiano, 2 Que lLnda va, 3 Parque San Jose, 4 Candil de la Calle, 5 Locura de Amor, 6 Guajira Natural, 7 Un Beso y un Adios, 8 Largo de Pantalon, 9 Camaguey, 10 Ochun Ochun, 11 La Esquina de Galiano, A Bailar con Rita (Extended)

You can visit Ochún at: www.ochunmusic.com or on Myspace at: www.myspace.com/ochunmusic
