Direct from New York,
a deeply Cuban charanga/salsa recording. The leader and singer,
Miguel Garcia, is a fine sonero, originally from Cuba, and his voice
floats easily over the tres and rhythm section. Stripped on the
strings, the band turns into a strong conjunto, New York style, and
the recording is proof that working New York bands can still produce
good honest music. There's a pile of beautiful swing here; listen to
"Ochun Ochun," which comes at you, greased. Highly Recommended. (Peter
