Review by Latin Lady Dj Margarita for WWW.VINILEMANIA.NET

OLA FRESCA – it means “fresh wave” -- is the name of the band. Founded in 2000 by singer-composer-lyricist and arranger Jose Conde, Ola Fresca features some of the best musicians in New York City, coming together for a fresh take on rootsy, funky, jazzy, Latin dance music!

Jose Conde made no mistake when he named the album (R)evolución. As each of us finds ourselves on our own life's journey and path, we face new experiences and with those new experiences, at times, comes an "evolving" and/or "re-evolving" due to the impact of that experience and throughout life we are allowed many opportunities to evolve & re-evolve.

In this album you will experience exactly this sensation. (R)evolución holds within it's specifically selected music and arrangements a unique sense of change, while simultaneiously keeping it's basic roots in tact. On several tracks you'll feel it's deeply rooted, authentically Cuban rhythms draw you in. I call this the "heartbeat" of a song. On others, you'll experience a sense of longing, that lingers long after the music has left it's message on your heart and soul.

There is a definite balance between the past and the "evolving" present as is evident by "Provando Nuevo Sabores" a bouncy Cumbia-Socca-Reggae number that adds a sense 'New Flavor' to the album. "Ride the Onda" (Wave) is another "out of the norm" track because it's just so unexpected, while at the same time it manages to stay quite "unobtrusive" while adding Funk to the album. So much to choose from.

I was personally drawn to several tracks that I will find myself playing over and over again; Mi Musica es Para Ti, Ritmo y Sabor, El Chacal, Descarga Inez & Summertime just to name a few.

Do I believe that the naming of this album was a play on words? Absolutely not! It's very clear to me that we are (R)evolving each and every day of our lives and our music is undergoing that same (R)evolución! This is exactly the message that Ola Fresca shares with us on this project! Well done!

Excellent Album, (Not your high energy dance club album, but well worth having it in your library). Recommended.
