review by Pietro Carbognani for VINILEMANIA.NET

In the last months in central Florida an historic concert has been held under the musical direction of the saxophonist, composer Jazz Hamilton (for years a member of the orchestra of Tito Puente and in that of the percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo as well as the musical director for years of the most famous salsa vocalists) that has involved an orchestra of 20 elements and 15 vocal “superstars”  (Andy Montanez, Cano Estremera, Luisito Carrion, Adalberto Santiago, Camilo Azuquita just to name a few).

This one off, never to be repeated performance of it’s time has been immortalised in a CD and in DVD: “Hamilton y Las Estrellas del Pueblo – live vol. 1”.

After a great presentation a few different classics are proposed as to pay tribute to the classical traditional Salsa. The new arrangements, and the excellent execution of the orchestra, the improvisations and the mastery of the already nominated vocalists have given new life to the old successes of the past (Vagabundo, El Poeta, Xiomara, etc.) render this a truly pleasant listening experience both in respect of the sound and vision quality of the two articles and, it is in my personal opinion, that this is to consider as a “collection”!!

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
