Great little indie burner from the Left Coast, featuring a band run
by the percussionist Perry, originally from Puerto Rico. And just
check out his playing: over a montuno on "Agua Que va a Caer," Perry
lets his hands go. The lead singer, Joaquin McWhinney, best known as
a reggae singer from San Diego, does a good job, and the band,
including Harry Kim, Justo Almario and Arturo Velasco on horns can
really move. Tons of instrumental breaks, also, with bata drums,
played by Mark Lamson, showing up over a a piano figure for an
extended solo. This is dance music at its best, by musicians and for
both dancers and listeners.
