Ah,
another noble idea in the burgeoning field of Cuban/gypsy hybrids.
This one takes the manouche style of gypsy music, best known via
Django Reinhardt, and blends it into the maelstrom of Cuban modern
jazz. Practically, it works out that Mathias Levy, the violinist
from the French group solos over the Cuban rhythm section. The
French musicians contributed a bunch of the material, and the Cuban
group interprets it; Vannia Borges and Tania Pantoja, former (Borges)
and current (Pantoja) singers of Bamboleo, each sing one song. The
group recorded a cd, and along with that cd is a DVD documentary and
concert of a show that the ensemble played last year in Geneva,
Switzerland. Musicianship at the highest level.
